Above all else, we want to reinvent period products so that they’re better for your body and better for the rest of the world. By the rest of the world, we mean not just the natural environment but everyone in it – whether they’re our customers or not.
That’s why we’ve chosen to be a B Corporation. If you’ve not heard of this type of company before, it means we’re a profit-making business that’s committed to using our business as a force for good. The B stands for benefit, because our work has to benefit workers, the community and the environment – so you can see why it’s right up our street. And we’re in good company too: some of our favourite brands like Patagonia, Seventh Generation and Divine Chocolate are B Corp companies too.
What does it really mean to be a force for good? Well, in 2018/19 we gave over 5% of our sales to non-profits and commit to an annual minimum of 1%. We look for those that improve the lives of people with periods, especially women without access to affordable femcare products. Recently we’ve been supporting the amazing people at Days for Girls, Red Box Project and Bloody Good Period. Everyone who works at Callaly spends 3% of their time working for charities. For example Kelsey works with a kids’ educational programme, Jody proofreads for charities, and as a team we regularly spend afternoons packing charity donations together.
Every decision we make, no matter how small, is made with an eye on the wider impact
Every decision we make, no matter how small, is taken with an eye on the wider impact. All our packaging is recyclable and biodegradable, we use only organic cotton, and we hold ourselves to the highest standards, putting our customers’ health before our bottom line. We use our social media feeds and our blog Currents to help bust the period taboo, normalise menstruation and empower all people with periods to feel proud of what their bodies can do.
If you’re wondering who holds us accountable for all this, every B Corp is audited regularly by a non-profit organisation called B Lab to check that we’re really doing what we say we will. You can see how highly we score in every area of our business by looking at our B-Corporation impact report:

We’re also committed to working towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We’re especially focused on number 5: gender equality and number 12: responsible consumption and production. This might sound rather ambitious but we believe that every positive action we take moves us in the right direction.
We’re committed to making Callaly a force for good now and in the future. If you’d like to find out what we’re up to next, follow us on Instagram for updates, inspiration and ways to get involved. See you there!
